I should update this more often, but with the constant journaling I've got assigned to me at school I get a little tired of the process.

In short -

School is going wonderfully. So far I'm sure my acting teacher loves me; both of the exercises (Meisner repetition... and repetition... and repetition...) I've presented have worked wonderfully. Though today I felt like the emotional sobbing douche bag in front of my peers, my teacher said I had done the work beautifully and she had nothing to say other than it was perfect. Things are coming together and I'm beginning to understand the point of all this training.

My movement class is fucking fantastic. It's the first intensive yoga/viewpoint training I've ever had, and it's clear. I worked so hard last year on improving my posture that I've built so much tension in my neck and back. I have a lot of work to do, but my teacher is very well equipped to hold my hand through the painful stretches and movements.

I'm working every weekday at the cafe, then heading to school. Mindy works with me every day, goes to school with me every day, then comes home with me every day. We're life partners now.

The apartment is getting together. Thanks to the loan my uncle was willing to give my family, and the refund for the massive loan we're getting from the government, my rent is paid through February. This means I can use my well earned paychecks to rush some Broadway!

Speaking of which, I saw Equus last night. Daniel Radcliffe, surprisingly enough, was very good. I was putting a bunch of pressure on him since it's one of my favorite shows, but I thought he carried it well. Richard Griffiths was fucking fantastic, of course. The show was so well done that when Daniel was naked at the end of the show, I wasn't distracted at all by the fact that I was watching Harry Potter's penis jiggle around in the dark while he stabbed horses.

I'm going to try and convince my mother to get me a ticket to see The Tempest for my birthday. I mean, it's got to be done. Mandy Patinkin!!

Other than that, I'm again up way too late. I'm averaging five hours of sleep a night, 4 hours of work, 4 hours of school, one hour rehearsal, and a few hours homework. The extra time I find myself with is spent on the subway or playing with Afork. Life is good.

I get to sing "A Miracle Would Happen" from The Last 5 Years for vocal production. Good thing she's ok with us changing the key. Considering I've got a shitty voice, I think I'm going to do well with this song. Should be fun. I begged her to let me do that, rather than her choice of "Miracle of Miracles" from Fiddler. Thank god she swayed. Miracle for miracle, har har.

I was going to go to MoMa tonight, but Mindy's getting her face pierced... so I'm going down to St. Mark's for the second night in a row to watch people get holes put in them. Culture for culture, har har.

Oh! I forgot to write about this; it's so rad! ----
In January all of the 14th floor (except the Moonies. Just us AADA kids) will be moving to the 9th floor. We get all new furniture, a flat screen TV, 180 channels, our own phone number with unlimited long distance, tiled floor, windows that open (a luxury only a few of us, including me, don't have), and our own lounge/food area on the floor. It's going to be amazing!!

For my movement class, we have to perform the choreography he's given us for All That Jazz from Chicago. We're doing it in small groups, but I'm hoping it's graded individually... My group sucks. SO BAD. I was shocked and offended when he placed me with the shitty ones. I'll make sure to have people videotape my final performances so I can post them here and shame myself =)

I guess I'm going out for drinks tonight, but I don't want to because I have little money. I really do need to get out though. I'm tired of always telling people I can't go out with them because I don't have money. It gets so stifling sitting here. Especially when I live in New York, haha. I need need need a job, but nobody's getting back to me about my applications. Fuck.

Jesus. So did you hear about the kid on the island who killed himself on Monday? Well apparently he made the phone call to the police to report his own suicide, and the police showed up.

He was standing on the lawn when they showed up, with an AK-47 pointed under his chin. You know what the cops did?

They fucking tazed him. Right. They decided to pull a tazer on the kid, thinking that'd be a good idea. As soon as he was hit by it, the gun went off and shot him in the head. I can't believe it! Those fucking idiots! The kid obviously didn't want to REALLY kill himself if he called the cops and went outside when they showed up. But then they shocked him, and clearly the convulsions he went through is what pulled the trigger.

The family is suing the police force. This is exactly why I am for gun control. Who in the fuck decides to hunt with an Ak-47?!

Still though, fault lies with the police force for being incompetent retards... and partly with the family for being gun-owning idiots. But mostly the cops.

Wow... even though we didn't get to rehearse much today, I thought the scenes we ran went really well. I suppose it'd be in our favor to fuck up a bit tomorrow, just so that we've got some good joo-joo for Friday. I got an award thing at the Celebration of Excellence tonight. Silly ceremony, but it was cool to promote my play to everyone, and look silly compared to all the nicely-dressed kids.

If you're reading this and you're part of the play. Bring your costumes tomorrow.

My parents just got home with a veggie taco, hurrah!

I feel like I had to document this. This discussion is my last minute 'mini-essay plus question' that I had to turn in online for my history class.

The pieces that follow it are actual responses from some people in my class.

__________________________________________________________________

Me:

In chapter 10 of If I Die in a Combat Zone, Box Me Up and Ship Me Home, Tim O'Brien recalls the horrific account of day the Alpha Company spent at an old man's village in Vietnam. The man was more than accomodating to the soldiers, letting them use his hut, his well, and helping when he could. The man, as Tim O'Brien writes, "... was somewhere over seventy years, stooped and hunched from work in the paddies, his spine bent into a permanent, calcified arc. He was blind." (O'Brien, pg. 99).

While the man helps the soldiers shower next to his well, one of the men grabs a carton of milk and throws it at the man. It bursts over his face, and as O'Brien describes, seems to have caused some serious pain to the old man. Surprisingly, and tragically, the old man only spends a moment to waver in pain, then goes back to washing the men with no question asked.

I am having the hardest time trying to imagine what provoked the attack. So my question, though not literally a comment on society at the time, could read into the mindset of the soldiers who participated in the war. So I would like you to answer this -

Why do you think the soldier did this? Why do you think nothing was done by the soldiers who watched this happen?

Them:

When I read that part in chapter ten I literally cringed at the idea of it happning because it stated that the mans eyes had cataracts and he was blind and as you said that the book stated that he was well over 70 years old. I couldn't find any reason behind the soldier throwing the milk in the old mans face, simply because he was such a caring and giving person to those who were invading his country. His quick forgivness too somewhat baffled me, personally, I'd be pissed if someone did that to me when I was being so generous. So, I'm just hypothesizing on this, the elderly man was wise, he had been through quite a bit in his life and not only that but most likely the man was Buddhist, which might be a reason for the quick forgiveness. However, the reason behind the action in the first place might be that the soldier knew he would be able to get away with it, he was more powerful, more equipt and he was probably immature enough to think that even if the old man was so giving, he was still the one carrying the M-16, hypothetically speaking.

Someone Else:

I think the soldier did that because he was sick in the head or cruel or somthing like that. They could all see that the old man was harmless. And when ever he could he would say, “Good water for good GIs.” He let them use his well, his home, and his children or grandchildren gave the soldiers backrubs. After the milk carton I think he went back to washing the soldiers because he didn’t know what else to do. It seems like the old man really thought that GIs were in his country to help him. When reading that chapter it doesn’t seem like the old man is helping them because he is scared of them. If he had been scared of them I doubt he would have let the children help the soldiers. I think that after the milk cartoon was thrown at him he went back to helping not only because he didn’t know what else to do, but also because he believed that they were good and he wanted to hold onto that idea for some reason.

I also found it interesting that the old man was helping the soldiers. Maybe it should have been the other way around. In return for using his water maybe they could have left him some of their C rations. It doesn’t say, but maybe they did leave him some food, but for some reason I doubt they did. I can’t comprehend why none of the soldiers did anything about that blond haired jerk threw the milk cartoon at the old man.

Someone Else:

I after I read this part, all I could think was is this guy a moron? Then I sat for another few seconds and thought, man this guys is a moron. I don't like the way he treated this old man who had gave them a place to stay, helped the shower, and provided them with so much help. I think he did this because he was frustruated (and stupid) especially after the ambushes that they kept making with Johansen in charge. I think that the reason for no one doing anything was that they were either extremely amazed by what happened or they just looked down at the Vietnamese and didn't really care.

attacking Aurora's neighbors

Hoorah, Jingle Bomb was fun.

Funny story I thought you should read =

Rozi and I were heading to Aurora's apartments and I had a little plastic sword and shield to charge at Aurora with and surprise her. I asked Rozi which apartment it was, and she pointed me up to number 203. I saw the door wasn't closed all the way, so I charged through it holding my shield and sword and ready to scream. Some random mexican guy on the couch looked up at me from inside. I stopped. I said, "That's not her. Sorry," and walked out.

Turns out we were one stairway over from where Aurora was. Hahaha
